My Story

This year’s Great Cycle Challenge is especially personal and emotional for me. In January, I lost my beloved partner, Al, to mesothelioma after he fought the disease with incredible courage and determination.

Watching someone you love endure cancer is unbearable. Seeing what Al went through strengthened my belief that we must keep fighting for better treatments and, ultimately, a world where cancer no longer has the power to take away the people we love.

That is why again I have chosen to raise funds for children’s cancer research through the Great Cycle Challenge. No child should ever have to face this terrible disease. Children should be learning, laughing, playing and growing—not fighting for their lives.

Al was always my number one supporter. He was there to encourage me, help me and welcome me at the end of each ride. This year, I will deeply miss having him there, but I will carry his love and support with me through every km.

This October, I will ride 800 km and more if am able in Al’s memory and for every child and family affected by cancer. This will be my ninth year riding in the Great Cycle Challenge, and the cause has never meant more to me. The funds raised will support research into safer, more effective treatments and cures for childhood cancers.

My fundraising target is $5,000 and hopefully beyond. Please support my GCC 2026 fundraiser by donating or sharing my page. Every contribution, no matter the amount, will help me move closer to this goal. Together, we can honour those we have lost, stand beside those still fighting, and help create a future where children can simply be children.
