How Your Money Helps
Great Cycle Challenge has one goal...to fight kids' cancer!
Why? Because cancer is the largest killer of children from disease in Australia. Over 700 Australian children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 children die every week.
All funds raised go to support the work of Children's Medical Research Institute (CMRI) to develop treatments and find cures for childhood cancers.
And we won't stop until all kids are free from cancer!
Why your support matters
Your support through Great Cycle Challenge will allow us to continue our work to fight kids' cancer and give these kids the brighter futures that they deserve.
CMRI is never guaranteed government funding and relies greatly on the support of the community to keep their labs open.
We are proud that 82 cents from every dollar spent goes directly towards research.

The impact of your gift
Here are just some of the many ways your support helps fight childhood cancer:
- $50 can help our scientists develop better cancer treatments with fewer side effects.
- $58 can buy special materials needed for extracting cancer DNA to help us find out what turns an innocent cell into a killer.
- $86 can purchase a “big data” scan that allows us to see more than 7,000 proteins in a cancer cell and improve cancer diagnosis and treatment planning.
- $95 can buy 1 mg of an experimental telomerase inhibitor to test – one that might lead to a better cancer treatment.
- $138 can help us scan thousands of cancer proteins and add to our database, which aims to transform how doctors diagnose and treat cancer.
- $880 helps us operate specialised microscopes that allow scientists to see the processes occurring inside living cells that turn them cancerous.
- $1500 can fund pre-clinical tests of a new drug that could treat cancer, epilepsy, or other conditions.
