Alfie

Alfie died from Brain Cancer in June 2018. He went through 10+ brain operations, 5 months of high-dose chemotherapy, 9 months of intensive hospitalisation, multiple infections, months of seizures and vomiting, the loss of his mother to the same disease, and finally 10 days without food or water. After all that, he still fought for his last breaths… No child or person deserves this, things don't happen for a reason, but we must find a better way to respond with treatment or cures when they do.

Thanks to your continued support, I'm again taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer.

Each year I ride in this event for my courageous little nephew Alfie, who died from brain cancer in June 2018. Alfie also lost his mother Sara Chivers from an unrelated form of brain cancer in January 2018. Their tragic story was covered in various media and can be found online.

Cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia. Funds will support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support Alfie's legacy by making a donation. You can also look-up and support the The Alfie Chivers Research Fellowship, which aims to establish culture methods for treatment of rare, low-survival childhood brain tumours, as published in the March 2023 edition of scientific journal, Cancer Cell.
