My Fifth Year Riding for Kids with Cancer

This October marks my fifth year riding in the Great Cycle Challenge to raise vital funds for kids fighting cancer and to support life-saving research in pediatric cancer.

It is also my fifth year depending on a bicycle as my main way of getting around.

My journey began six years ago with an electric-assisted tricycle. Back then, I thought I had lost the ability to ride a two-wheeler, so the tricycle felt like my only option. With the battery’s help pushing me uphill—and a few tumbles along the way—I slowly gained the courage to switch to a bicycle. Riding lets me see the world differently—faster than walking but slower than driving, perfectly in tune with my rhythm of life.

This year has been extra special for me. My second granddaughter, Kyra, joined our family, following her big sister Jubilee. Jubilee now has her own little bike (with training wheels), and one day soon Kyra will have hers too. Watching them reminds me how much children need love, encouragement, and hope—especially those who are battling something as cruel as cancer.

That is why I ride. Every pedal stroke is for them—for the children who deserve a chance to grow, to laugh, and to live. And every year, I am deeply humbled and grateful for the generous support of my friends who stand with me in this mission.

It was fun to visit Tai Cheong Store and played together and also the bicycle shop in Block 21 of Yau Tong that we had rented the bicycles. The fun at that time was always remembered. Now when I ride on the road, these scenes always come up in my mind. Thanks my good friend, wish you good health and may the Lord bless your generosity. God Bless!”

What I’ll never forget is the support and companionship you two have given me all through life’s journey. I really look forward to catching up again soon.”
