My Story

Hi,

Once again this October, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer for the 9th time!

My goal is to pedal 1,012 kilometres throughout October & to raise more than $3,610 to bring my total to over $24,000 during my 9 years.

Over 8 Years I have raised more than $20,390 & ridden 12,385 for this cause.

Cancer is the largest killer of children from disease in Australia - over 700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year (over 3 die each week).

To show my support, I am taking on this 30-day challenge to support cancer research & give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

As usual it will be a tough month as it also includes running a half marathon at McLaren Vale on the 15th, but it's nothing compared to what these brave kids face every day.

  • 250, 71 years in the making

    It was my 250 parkrun Saturday 26 October which I did at Carisbrooke where it all started back in June 2018. Since then I've completed all SA parkrun and different 13 interstate ones. I'd not run for decades & now I've run numerous half marathons, podium finished in all of them for my age group, plus other 5k & 10k runs.

    HOWEVER

    This month every year for the past 9 years I've also cycled for Children's Cancer Research raising awareness and funds of nearly $25,000.

    I need your help, I'm $578 short of achieving that target at the moment.

    October is fast approaching & I'm running late to start my request for donations.

    This year I'm planning on riding 1012 km & to raise $3610 to help people like Sienna here.

    It's time to concentrate on the October challenge Charity ride with Mclaren Vale 10k run in the middle of it.

    Normally I have done the half marathon however with World Multi Sports Championships being on this year & it's longest run was 10k I dropped all my races to be the same.

    Anyway, just a reminder that I'm riding 1021km & hope to raise $3610 ($724 raised already so only $2886 to go!)

    Sienna is just one of the many children who we are riding & raising the funds for so please donate what you can, every little bit helps.

    Every week we loose 3 children to cancer & it needs to stop!

    Well my challenge is starting off with World Championships at Townsville QLD in Duathlon, in both the Sprint & Standard this month. They are a Run-Bike-Run event, Sprint is 5-20-2.5km & the Standard 10-40-5km on Friday 16th & Sunday 18th.

    I'll be wearing the Green & Gold as part of the Australian Team in my Age Category, something I never thought possible until recent years, a few years after starting to ride for GCC when I added running to my fitness.
