My Story

3 Oct 2024

A cancer diagnosis for anyone is a terrible shock, but when it comes to a small child the impact on the family is devastating!! In recent years it has been The Covid-19 Pandemic and more locally the floods, that have only added to the distress. We humans are continually facing challenges!! None bigger than a child with a cancer diagnosis!!

For this reason, I have decided (for the SEVENTH time), to participate in the Great Cycle Challenge to kick cancer's butt!! AND RIDE MY BUTT OFF!!!

It is the many posts on fb of these brave little battlers that has inspired me!

Many of you will have spotted me on the road around Kyogle already, preparing for this activity, thanks for the waves.

On the previous SIX occasions, I was absolutely blown away by your generosity during my fundraising campaign, so I am urging you to get behind me once again and make a donation, no matter how big or small, for this extremely worthy cause.

Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give the kids impacted by this insidious disease the brighter futures they deserve.

Together, we can save little lives.

I am extremely grateful for your support.

He told me I rock!!! These wonderful donations go to the CMRI (Children's Medical Research Institute) that conducts research into children's genetic diseases. You're part of the process now Jase, helping save little lives.”

Probably hard to believe, but it's these donations that inspire me to go out and get on the bicycle, ride the kilometres to help these young kids kick cancer's butt!!! Once again, thank you.”

“Gee thanks Bill and Helen for your very generous donation and regular support of my fundraiser. Yes, I actually look forward to October every year primarily because I not only get to raise the necessary money for research into kids' cancer, I increase my fitness levels as well, and as we know, exercise is good for us all. ;) Once again, thank you for your ongoing support.”

“Wow John and Fumiko, how lovely to receive your very generous donation in support of my annual GCC cycle challenge. I'm sure you would agree that this insidious disease has touched on all our lives, if not with children, then within other generations, it doesn't discriminate!!! So, you are now part of the very important research process, and for that, myself, but more importantly, many, many others are grateful.” :)”

“You are the a-non-y-MOST!! Would love to know who the very generous person is donating to my campaign ;) Just a bit of info about the extremely well run campaign; it was established win 2015 and is a month-long national cycling challenge that raises funds in support of a cure for childhood cancer. Proceeds benefit life saving research through Children's Cancer Research Fund. So, Anonymous, you are now part of the very important process, and for that, myself, but more importantly, many, many others are grateful.”

“So grateful to you Mark yesterday, a very generous donation (you’re becoming a regular donor✔️) you took the amount raised so far to over $250. The following is part of an email from GCC: “Because when you raise $250, you'll achieve PROTECTOR level on your dashboard AND be halfway to raising $500 to receive your FREE Great Cycle Challenge jersey! 😲” Mark, you’re now part of the process, helping kick cancer’s butt well and truly in these little kids! Tks again m8 Want to come and ride the Bentley Casino return rail trail next week?”

“What a lovely surprise Fiona and Adi, how are you both?.....Adi is certainly growing up, quite the young lady and you are looking fabulous! I am very grateful for your support once again Fiona in my fundraising campaign, quite overwhelmed by the returning donors, I suppose almost all of us have been touched by this insidious disease, if not in children, then teenagers, adults and the older generation. Thank you very much for supporting me once again Fiona. See you next year ;)”

However, when it comes to a small child the impact on the family is devastating. That's why every year during the month of October, I "get on my bike and ride" albeit each year a little slower. That's why I'm asking you to support my challenge by making a donation through the fundraising page.”
