My Story
This October, I'm back in the saddle for the Great Cycle Challenge, riding to help kids fight cancer.
Because here in Australia, cancer is still the #1 disease killer of our children. Every year, over 700 kids are diagnosed—and every week, 3 families lose a child. That’s not okay.
Kids should be out riding bikes, climbing trees, getting muddy knees... not fighting for their lives in hospital rooms.
So I’m riding 800 km this October to raise funds for the Children’s Medical Research Institute—to help drive forward the science that saves lives. Better prevention, better diagnosis, better treatment... and one day, a cure.
If you’ve followed my journey before, you’ll know this challenge means a lot to me. And if this is your first time—welcome to the ride. I’ll be sharing every uphill, tailwind, and quiet moment of reflection on the pedals.
👉 Please consider donating if you can. Every dollar makes a difference—and gives a sick kid a brighter future.
Together, we ride. Together, we save little lives.
Thanks for your support — Leigh

12 Weeks Out and Ready to Get at It!
8 Jul 2025The countdown has begun—12 weeks out from the Great Cycle Challenge and I’m already shifting gears and getting into prep mode.
This October, I’ll be riding 800 km to help fight kids’ cancer and raise funds for the Children’s Medical Research Institute—and I couldn’t be more pumped to get moving toward this important goal.
I’ve already lined up my annual leave so I can make the most of my Mondays and Tuesdays—giving me the space for longer rides, and recovery time. I'm also scoping out routes around Victoria, planning a few bigger weekends, and finding new ways to keep things interesting along the way (yes, even in the headwinds and drizzle).
Right now, it’s all about laying the groundwork:
Getting the legs turning again
Dialling in the gear
Training with purpose
Because this ride isn’t just about distance—it’s about impact. Every kilometre is for the kids who can’t ride, who are stuck in hospital beds instead of out riding with their friends. That’s what keeps me moving.
If you're reading this, thank you for being part of it. The ride’s getting closer—and I can't wait to hit the road with purpose.
Let’s make this October count. — Leigh
