I'm Riding For
Barbara Sargent
An amazing lady who was and remains an inspiration to me and so many others. Sadly gone but never forgotten. Love you Aunty Barb!
My Story
This October, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Because right now, cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia – over 700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 die every week.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
And so I am riding and raising funds to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support my challenge by making a donation through my fundraising page to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Together, we can save little lives.
Thanks for your support.

GCC25-6
17 Dec 2025Apologise for the lateness of my final entry for the GCC25 but due to a "technical issue" the final few GCC emails were redirected to the "spam" folder and auto-deleted.
The GCC25 was brilliant - I was fortunate to be in Team Gen3 (multi-generational) and we had an amazing challenge and raised over $24,000.00 (seventh in the country).
Just reviewed the final figures and stats for the GCC25 and a few stand out:
1. a total of 124,400 days, 5 hours and 52 minutes riding
2. enough km's to circle the planet approximately 37 times
3. the undertaking of the GCC by the Davis Cycle Team (5,182km - $5,060.00) on the RSV Nuyina enroute from Hobart to the Antarctica. Yep - on an icebreaker. Simply incredible.
4. many people attempted the GCC for the first time in 2025 - "tip of the hat" to Maria Chapman who rode 228km. Maria is blind and completed her challenge on a tandem bicycle with support from her club. Never say never.
5. to date the GCC has ridden 31,542,335km and raised $48,467,403.00 for the CMRI. Wow!
Well planning is underway for 2026.
Enjoy the festive season the New Year and stay safe.
See you in 2026

GCC25-5
1 Nov 2025...it's over - October has past...
...the Team Gen3 (Tasmania stint) was a combination of "mechincal gremlins" & some seriously "COLD" weather - while the rest of the country was being subjected to some HOT weather, Tasmania was being "hammered" by rain, sleet, hail, SNOW and gale force icy winds (talk about opposites....
...snapped chain, broken brakes, "derailed" derailleur, broken cassette shrouds and NO brakes (at the end of the month on my borrowed bicycle) - certainly tested one's patience and impromptu roadside repair capabilities...
...today, saw the drawing of the GCC 25 Team Gen3 (HBT) raffle with the assistance of it's major sponsor, the Brighton Hardware Hub - winner notifications are currently underway.
...Team Gen3 wishes to thank all the raffle sponsors and those people that supported the raffle - your help is greatly appreciated and will help save lives...
...FYI - my profile was taken on the "new" Bridgewater bridge (a nice smooth ride) and yep, it was COLD. Lol!...
...initial planning is underway for GCC26 - possibly an "off road" adventure, as trees are easier to dodge than cars. Lol!...
...the final GCC25 statistics will be available at the end of Nov 25 - these will be distributed upon receipt...
...thank you all again, for your continued support of this amazing activity & I'll see you in 2026...
...stay safe...

GCC25-4
22 Oct 2025...well, the dreaded mechanical grelims struck early into this morning's ride - "ye oldest snapped chain"...
...definitely made it a challenge to return to home - hills galore - down was easy whilst walking up them wasn't much fun. Lol!...
...to add insult to injury - it's a public holiday in HBT today - so NO chain until tomorrow...
...stay safe...

GCC25-4
22 Oct 2025Well this morning's ride into HBT CBD was certainly "different" than the previous QLD rides - the bike I was using was "small" (I desperately needed the seat about 8"/200cms higher BUT not happening), it was cold & wet (remember this is Tasmanian "cold & wet". Lol!) and the wind was all but "polar" and it cut right through our riding attire (however, Hayden & I still attracted multiple "positive" words of encouragement.).
The morning tea was a great success and everybody who attended had a good time and offered "words of praise" for our efforts in the GCC.
My public thanks to the Tasmanian Government - Department of Premier and Cabinet for hosting this activity, as there continued support is greatly appreciated.
In addition my personal "thanks" and "love" to my daughters who helped arrange and cater for the morning tea - nobody went hungry. Lol!
The TAS Gen3 GCC Raffle is winding up and will be drawn on 01 Nov 25.
Weather permitting Hayden and I can get a few more rides in before the end of the month.
Stay safe.
