My Story
This October, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
This will be my 6th year, but my first since 2020, in fact, since I moved to Bendigo in 2023 my push bike has been ridden a total of 21.5km, 1.5km of them this morning.
It's time to do this again for my own health and fitness, and to help out for a fantasic charity, doing amazing work for children suffering from cancer.
April this year it was the 30th anniversary of my fathers passing from brain cancer, 30 years gone and miss him every day.
This October will be the first anniversary of my partner's niece's passing, Ann was just 37 when she passed after suffering from an aggresive blood cancer. While I had only known Ann for a relatively short time, she welcomed me into their family with open arms, warmness and love, I had become her Tito (Uncle) Ian. We miss her every day.
Cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia – over 700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 die every week.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
And so I am riding and raising funds to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer.
