In memory of Darren Timms (pictured) (RIP 2024) and John Smallwood (RIP 2019), as well as Friends, Family and Associates effected by Cancer. I am again participating in the October Great Cycle Challenge riding for Children's Cancer Research. Please support this important initiative by donating to the cause.

My Story

9 Nov 2025

This October Redlands Cycling & Multisport Club Team (RCMC) is again taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! Last Year, 50 Redlands Cycling & Multisport Club Team participated, and we raised $44376 for Children's Cancer Research. Our Team’s October Kilometer Total was 44,784 in the 31 days. The banter during the challenge is amazing and so many team members rode WAY beyond their comfort Zone. The Challenge is a great format that doesn't draw donation $$ away from the Charity.

Firstly, here is a Review our previous Participations as a team.

2021 Team RCMC Raised $7,781 and Collectively Cycled 35,216 km's

2022 TEAM RCMC Raised $21,676 and Collectively Cycled 37,430 km's

2023 TEAM RCMC Raised $24,416 and Collectively Cycled 33,422 km's

2024 TEAM RCMC Raised $29,477 and Collectively Cycled 45,420 km's

2025 TEAM RCMC Raised $44,376 and Collectively Cycled 44,784 km's

............................... Total $127,726,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, 196,272 km's

Earth's circumference measured around the equator, is just 40,075 km, that is our Ride Target for 31 October Days and would bring up the 185,000 kms and at least $110,000 raised in five participations is well within reach.

We are aware right now, that cancer is the largest single killer of children from disease in Australia – over 600 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and sadly, 3 die every week. We also ride in memory of our great departed Friends Darren Timms and John Smallwood (RIP) and are raising funds to support the Children's Medical Research Institute to enable them to continue their work into the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and finding a cure for childhood cancer. Thank you everyone who supports our challenge by donating.

  • Lucky tomorrow is the LAST DAY of the 2025 Great Cycle Challenge
    29 Oct 2025

As the 80 year old Team leader, I have to say I'm not the rider I was last year. Having Cycled 1,262 km's in this campaign so far, the body has changed somewhat. On the plus side I notice I create less wind resistance and there is little risk of getting sunburn. It's great that Traffic gives me a wide berth. My wife is an amazing cook but she has been in Hospital this Month so I missed a few meals. I fear now that she won't recognize me.

“This Organization is amazing to support this great cause. I was on the PC with our Team Page open all day and it's been like standing at Woolies Checkout. Starting at around 4k then ping....ping,,,.,,,ping......ping all day and now at 4.00am I'm looking at $3454 in my bucket and $35,454 in my Team Bucket, On top of that, in just 8 days we have all contributed a combined 10,158km's and that's assuming everyone has logged all their km's on the system. Redlands Club members are still joining the Team so this will be an interesting project. Never mind our 2025 Theme "around the World," I'm already "Over the Moon!””

Targets constantly increased, Great banter from the team and most importantly, news throughout the month about breakthroughs in Cancer Treatment with some children out of permanent Hospital stays to spent periods at home. I will be issuing a full report on the 2025 Great Cycle Challenge late next week when it's wrapped up. Regards Case”

“It definitely did Ray, your donation put me $4 over my $4750 Target. So generous of you. My Team smashed the $40 Thousand mark so we are now aiming to up the Km's so we achieve 1 Dollar for every Km Cycled. This link reveals the plan. https://www.facebook.com/groups/145996070235 6 October days to go the Dollars are $42,409 and the KM's 35,673. that's 6736 difference or 1123km per day. We have averaged 1467km's to now but as more Cash comes in the Task gets Harder. Great Fun...”

“Thanks Bill & Wendy for supporting our Great Cycle Challenge to fund Children's Cancer Research. Your timing is PERFECT, when you pushed the button my sub total for donations so far, came up at EXACTLY $1000. This being Day 8, I have cycled 411 kms so far, early morning weather has been great so I'm starting out at 4.30am. Donations are also steady. I set my 2025 Team Target for October at 40,075 km's, that's the circumference of Planet Earth at the Equator. That will certainly hurt the Girls and boys on the team but doesn't compare with the hurt these Children and their parents endure. the Double effect will add in Tomorrow.”
