My Story

1 Oct 2026

This month I've set myself a goal of riding 50km as part of the Great Cycle Challenge. Stationary. It's safer when I'm stationary. The saying, "you never forget how to ride a bike" is definitely not true. Between being a kid and becoming an adult, bike brakes seem to have changed from pedalling backwards to using the handlebars. I ran into a fence, and the fence won.

Two decades ago was the last time I rode a bike. I bought a new one and, feeling nostalgic, added some Spokey Dokeys like I had as a child. It didn't end well. No one told me the brakes had moved from pedalling backwards to the handlebars. The fence won that battle, and I hadn't been back on a bike since... until now.

“Hi Mel, Thank you so much for your donation and for always supporting absolutely everything I do. It completely made my day! It’s only day two and I’m already questioning how many more days of motivation I have left, so I'm not quite sure about increasing the km goal just yet! Getting the date completely wrong on Wednesday definitely didn’t help. Knowing I have your donation will definitely motivate me to keep pushing forward. Thanks for always being in my corner! Don’t forget to claim it on tax next year.”
