Pupil free day meant a long weekend for the kids, and a good opportunity to rack up their KMs for this year's Great Cycle Challenge. Unfortunately, we hit a hurdle on Saturday, as our ride was cut short due to dad inadvertently stumbling upon a bindie patch and getting a flat (boo!).
Sunday was a no-go either, as big man celebrated his 9th birthday (where has the time gone?!), and we all know that you can't ride your bike if you're full on cake amiright?
Monday morning was a lovely day out at Floriade's big bulb dig as mum & dad put the boys to work unearthing the wonderful colourful tulip bulbs in preparation for next year (hah! no free day for you). All that physical labour was not an excuse to slack off, so it was back on the bikes to clock in the kms.
Saturday: 2km (then a flat tyre boo!)
Sunday: 0km (tummies too full on birthday cake!)
Monday: 13.5km around the lake!
School holidays - windy but sunny.
I stayed home today, but Nicky spent his day at daycare. Daddy dropped Nicky off with his bike this morning. Mommy and I cycled to his daycare at the end of the day, and together we cycled home.
We took the longer way there (5.8km) but we took the shorter home (4.5km) because Nick has shorter legs, a smaller bike and complains a whole lot more...mommy and I covered a bit over 10km for our return trip home.
We stopped along the way to take over some Pokemon Gyms, spun some stops and caught some mons - gotta catch em all!
Stats:
Bird swoops: 0
accidents/falls: 0
participants: mom + 2 kids
Distance 10.3km
number of stops: 2
The beautiful weekend has provided us an opportunity to take on our first ride of this year's campaign. It was also Nicholas' first official ride where his efforts are tallied up.
Mommy braved herself up to ride with Nicholas & Kayden with the Dog throttling alongside her!
We rode from home with a promise of hashbrowns from the golden arches. Whilst the ride does not generally take this long, we had to do multiple stops (to his brother's annoyance) to form distractions for the 4yo. Mini milestones, if you'd call it, so the ride didn't seem as boring.
The journey was mostly uneventful. We enjoyed the beautiful spring morning that came complete with magpie swoops. It only acted as a motivator for us to pedal even faster to avoid the protecting pair from circling back more than twice!
Kiddo did struggle to navigate around some poles, which meant he ran straight into one, ricochet off it and straight into a bush. Thankfully it was a bush, not the lake!!! Big brother Kayden was quick witted, he responded by jumping off his bike and quickly ran to Nicholas to help him up. Through sobs, we decided to seek refuge at the Gym, a familiar space where we could grab some rest, and some TLC from the beautiful coaches there.
Just as we approached the gym, through the excitement of seeing daddy's car parked there(meaning he has gone to the gym for some well deserve time alone, punching bags and coaches), the kids and the dog got a bit excited(read pulling) and mommy ran the bike wheel straight into the curb. She managed to stop herself from flying over the bicycle handles but certainly didn't come short of hitting herself (read: crotch) against it!
We stopped by the Gym to say hello (and have a whinge about our eventful journey, and the total tally of 2 injuries to report) before we headed off to get our reward and some time at the skate park before we headed home.
